Such a well insulated house, even if quite big, requires only a small amount of power to heat and cool its premises- just a little bit more than a one family dwelling. The biggest energy requirement is the water warming. The water must be hot, clean and readily available at all times for our guests. The water can be heated in small portions and stored in an insulated water reservoir where it can be utilised as necessary. This technology is not only innovative but also environmentally friendly. A several kilometre long network of pipes was installed in front of the house, from 3 to 5 metres deep in the ground. According to the need of guests, the amount of water in the pipes will vary. In the summer the water coming from the outside is cold enough to cool the rooms’ floors. During the winter, the coming from outside is warm enough to allow the pump to extract the thermal energy necessary to warm the premises. This system has the further benefit of providing us with hot water throughout the year. This heat exchange system is only powered by electricity, thus it produces no fumes and reduces the risk of fire. This system uses 4-6 times less energy than a conventional heating and cooling system making it extremely efficient and economical. This system of heat transfer is based upon constant soil temperature, which is in contrast with the variable temperature of the air. |
